On every painting she creates a beautiful surreal/fantasy world full of emotions. She definitely is one of my favorite artists.

Yves Geleyn collaborates with illustrator Remy Tornior on a short film, Pirates!!! The Curse of the Evil Eye, a tale set on the high seas, about an epic battle of good against evil. Yves, having always been a huge fan of Remy’s work, wanted to work on a project with him for some time. Then a joke about a Cyclops sparked the idea for the animation and the story began to take shape. Starting in September of 2006 and finishing in February of 2010, averaging about 52 seconds of animation per year, it was a true labor of love. Yves and Remy had no budget for this project and worked on the film in any spare moment they could find.

The concept of this piece was to mix the two worlds of Yves and Remy. With great attention to detail, Yves created the background and models, while Remy designed the characters. They bought two model ships on eBay, which Yves shot against a blue screen. Next, he meticulously added all the elements, animated Remy’s designs and composited everything together. Then, they turned to Francois Montmayeur, currently a musician at L’Opera de Lyon, to create an epic score and sound design to create a truly cinematic experience.

Yves took a realistic approach when it came to the voices: he wanted Dutch voices for the Dutch boat and a more international mélange for the pirate crew (Japanese, Brazilian, French, Danish). To achieve this, he recruited the help of all his director friends from around the world who played along and sent him a collection of voices to inhabit this nautical adventure. With humor, love and a good deal of patience, Yves and Remy are extremely excited to be able to share their short film, Pirates!!! The Curse of the Evil Eye.

The guys from Georgia Tech Augmented Environments Lab (GVU Center) are working on an awesome augmented reality application for the iPhone. Augmented Reality (AR) is basically a technology that deals with the combination of the real-world and computer-generated data, in real time, and can be interactive.

In this AR Virtual Pet application for the iPhone, first a marker is placed on a surface, and then the iPhone’s camera is focused on the marker. Through the iPhone’s screen you then will see a 3D virtual pet pop up from the marker, as if the pet was on the surface where the maker was placed. Watch the video below for a demonstration, it’s pretty awesome.

Nespresso, the brand of fine coffee, for their latest commercial wanted to illustrate that “distinct flavors and aromas have the power to evoke special memories.” Australian film director Ben Briand came up with this vision of sensorial memories.

Two weeks ago I made a post about Pantural featuring his amazing 3D skills in his “My Cars Showreel.” Well, I couldn’t stop there and I had to make another post about him. This time, here is another awesome 3D animation by Pantural, a short video sequence featuring a very realistic 3D dinosaur T-Rex. Some of the tools he used were 3DS Max 2008, Vray, PFTrack, Mudbox, and After effects.

“Hearts A Mess” is a beautiful video directed by Brendan Cook featuring music from Gotye. I love the song, the music, and the animation.

In the video, a pied piper character walks the Earth, calling on its strange inhabitants to leave the wasted planet and follow him to a new world. pictureDRIFT developed a concept that would enhance the dark romanticism of the track whilst feeding a developing curiosity in 3d character development and animation. Time-lapse photography was used to create the background environments.

Tiago Hoisel has done it again! “This has never happened to me before” is the title of his new master piece. It is a cartoon version of the character Davy Jones from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. I love the texture and all the detail.

Notes from the artist:
This is a cartoon version of one of my favorites movie character, it’s a personal work that I made just for a study. I painted all with just one brush standard and at the end I applied some paper textures to make a little dirty. Throughout the process I made some changes on the first draw, on the position of the legs and on the hands to make enrich the idea.

Here is a short film by Wujoco Animation. Wujoco Animation is a small animation team from Buenos Aires, Argentina. This short film is titled “Training” and features two super heroes fighting. This is the first episode of Wujoco’s project called “Defenders of Something”. The animation is very funny, so I hope they keep this project going.

When I first saw the first image I thought it was a digital painting using some technique to give it the transparent look, but these are actually real life transparent sculptures. These extraordinary sculptures were made by Korean artist Jin Young Yu. I really like her unique style, the transparency make them look like a ghostly vision.

Kazuko Taniguchi is a very talented Japanese illustrator which likes to draw cute girls in traditional Japanese Kimono dresses with floral decorations. These are some examples of her beautiful work, I truly love her style, especially the detail she puts on the eyes.

“Vice Versa” is an animated short film where twins have a debate on how they change the environment, but in the end they find a way to share both of their views.

The short fim was created by Jacques Khouri, an animator and teacher from Montreal, Canada. (From the animator:) “This project was completed during my free time from teaching at SCAD and was produced with a small portable computer.”

On July 30, 2009 LG Electronics officially revealed the new Chocolate BL40. Here is an awesome video/3d animation created by Peter Roe. He shows some “behind the scenes” pieces in the video, so you have an idea of how the work was made. I thought the corridor with the graffiti in the walls was real.

I use 3 main software packages for making the work, XSI for Modelling, Photoshop for texturing and 3D studio Max for rendering. … in terms of time, I would say it would condense down to about 6-9 months of work. I worked on these pieces on and off in my spare time over the past couple of years so it’s hard to know exactly how long it took.
